A Generation of Potterheads!

Laugh all you want, but I am a complete Potterhead! A good amount of our generation grew up reading Harry Potter; it was what you looked forward too! Often times book series come to define some aspects of a generation. Whether you love the books, hate them, or have no strong feelings one way or the other you know about Harry Potter. J.K. Rowling is a British genius! She came up with a multi billion dollar idea in a coffee shop. This idea spread all over the world, and the books were translated into over 60 different languages. People of all ages were living in the Harry Potter era. Many Twihards try to say that the Twilight series is as famous or more famous, but the fact is Harry Potter has done what no book series has done before. With seven books, eight movies, and a theme park, Harry Potter has caught the attention of the entire world. The effect of the Harry Potter series can be summed up in a scene from the fifth book, "The Order of the Pheonix". Ginny casts a spell, Reducto, and all of the prophecy balls come crashing down towards the gang. "It began somewhat faintly, gathered steam, built almost to a sense of the inevitable. All you could do was get out of the way." (Cited Work) It has come to a point where if you don't know about Harry Potter than you must have lived under a rock for the past 14 years. Harry Potter will be remembered for generations to come, but it is cool to be able to say that I was part of the original generation of PotterHeads!  I started reading them when I was in first grade and finished the last book the summer after seventh grade. Once I started reading the Harry Potter series, reading became a way of life for me. J.K. Rowling made reading fun and addicting. As the Potterhead generation grows up they will pass down the books to their kids, who will no doubt pass it down as well. Harry Potter is an era that shall not perish from this earth.

  1. I enjoyed the Harry Potter series as well, and agree that it will continue to be one of the best, if not the best, modern works of literature for a long time to come. The way you used a quote from the series to describe its popularity. That was descriptive and creative. The picture you used is also pretty cool.

  3. I absolutely love the Harry Potter series. I also find it really cool that I was part of the original Harry Potter generation. Recently I went to see Harry Potter world in Universal and I was utterly amazed with how the park fit my ideas of the story from the first time I read the books and the first time I watched the movies. I remember thinking that J.K. Rowling really had a stroke of genius when she dreamed up Harry. I really appreciated the magnitude that her creativity has taken on. I thought your post was creative. I too loved that quote you used because it is so true.

  4. I personally fall into the category of having no strong feelings towards love or hate when it cones to the Harry Potter series. However, it is impossible to argue with your opinion on this one. Harry Potter, without a doubt, has drawn more attention than any other book series since I've been alive. As you already said, the series has defined our generation. I have not read a full book of any of the books in the series but I can come to these conclusions simply based on what I've observed. What other book series can have 8 movies made about it and each one be one of the best films of that year? The affect that Harry Potter has had on our generation is astonishing

  5. Though I have not read the Harry Potter books personally YET, I've grown up constantly hearing about them. It is undeniable that Harry Potter has done what no other books have. As a book series lover, I have great respect for the Potterheads. Twilight was that series that really got hooked me on reading, like you stated Harry Potter has for you, but I would never argue that it is more popular for the simple fact that there would be no argument. The fact that Harry Potter has been published in over 60 different languages is very impressive, and its hard to think of any other books that have topped that. There is no doubt that JK Rowling is amazing at what she does, and I'm excited to witness it for myself once I read the series. I never realized how awesome it is that we're part of this generation, and this makes me want to join the club even more.

  6. I am a huge Harry Potter fan too. Like you, I began reading the series when I was very young and I was hooked immediately. I like what you said about us being the generation to grow up on Harry Potter because it is so true. Now that the books and the movies are over, it is weird to not have another movie coming out. I think that when we read, it is an escape from our reality and Harry Potter gave us a whole new world to jump into with the most loveable characters. Other books may advertise themselves as "the next Harry Potter", but no other series will ever compare.
